Specialist in Periodontics

Penny Hodge is a specialist periodontist and an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow Dental School. She is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and was awarded her PhD by the University of Glasgow in 1999. She was admitted to the General Dental Council's Specialist List in Periodontics in 2002. Penny has served on the Council of the British Society of Periodontology and also the Management Committee of the British Society for Oral and Dental Research. She was awarded a Fellowship in Dental Surgery without examination by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2010.

Penny bases her treatment on the most recent available evidence in the scientific literature. Her research interests include risk factors for periodontitis (smoking, diabetes and genetic susceptibility) and clinical trials. She chaired the Guidance Development Group for the Prevention and Treatment of Periodontal Diseases in Primary Care on behalf of the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme. The guidance document was published in 2014.
