Target participants The course is aimed at General Practitioners who either; are already, or are interested in, placing and restoring dental implants.
Aims and objectives The course aims to provide confidence in planning, coordinating and restoring simple to medium complexity implant cases. This will be achieved though the use of implant systems offering: external and internal fitment designs, one stage and two stage surgical procedures. A combination of didactic learning, observation, and practical hands on teaching techniques will be utilized in a small limited attendance group.
The Primary sponsor of the implant course is Nobelbiocare - the world leader in dental implantology. The system we will be using primarily will be the Nobel “Replace” implant system. The principles and techniques will however be applicable to most other systems. The specialists at the practice are familiar with and regularly use most of the leading implant systems.
The Foundation course consists of two modules:
1. Core Foundation Course : The main 8 days provide the knowledge and treatment planning skills to help you safely manage most implant cases together with anticipating and recognizing problems before they occur. The core 8 day foundation course is for all practitioners interested in progressing with dental implant treatment.
We believe that the most effective learning is only achieved through practical participation, and that being a competent implant dentist begins with practical restorative experience. Once you have treatment planned and restored a number of cases you will be much more aware of the potential problems and pitfalls, and know where implants should be placed to make restoration predictable.
To this end it is essential that all delegates try and have implants placed in patients as soon as possible after starting the course (or before) in order to be able to restore them during the course. Even if you are wishing to ultimately place your own implants you should seek the skills of an implant surgeon to allow you to gain essential restorative experience before embarking on the surgical aspects.
For course delegates, we are happy to help and advise on getting through this first phase of implant placements.
2. Surgical placement skills: This second module is to help you achieve the skills necessary to place implants in your own patients and comply with the GDC guidelines on competency. The surgical module can only be attended in conjunction with the core 8 day foundation course or following its completion.
Each practitioner will be encouraged to provide a patient requiring dental implants for treatment planning, placement and subsequent restoration during the course period. Support from the involved implant companies will ensure that patients on the course will benefit from reduced costs.
